Improving LGBTQ Care

Thanks to generous support from Cape Cod Healthcare, Team Maureen conducted research on medical provider knowledge around HPV and LGBTQ+ care this year. We then offered a Provider Training to address gaps in knowledge, and developed and adapted educational materials for providers and patients.

The result is this FREE downloadable resource for medical providers, and an new and improved patient brochure that is fully inclusive. Download both below.

Oral Health Provider Education

Our Dental HPV Education Program educates oral health professionals about the connection between HPV and orophyrangeal, cervical, and other cancers. Team Maureen has designed and distributed toolkits for oral health professionals to talk to patients about the HPV Vaccine as cancer prevention.

The Toolkit Includes:

  • Tips for talking to patients for dentists
  • Brochures
  • Prescription referral pads and pens
  • Office posters
We also are identifying offices for participation in this effort, both locally and at the Yankee Denal Conference. And we are designing educational presentations in dental offices and working to coordinate an oral cancer screening day during Oral Cancer Awareness month in April.

If you are a dental professional and are interested in this program, email us at info@teammaureen.org

Web-based Intervention at Brigham and Women's

Team Maureen is working on an expanded use of our web-based education for patients at Brigham and Women's in the offices of Dr. Sarah Feldman. Patient Navigator, Nancy Peña, works with patients to use the online educational flashcards to help understand the connection between HPV and Cancer, and the importance of screening. Following the pilot of this project, we will expand to additional offices using new and improved web materials.

Ongoing Programs

TAKE THE SHOT NIGHT:
Team Maureen's Take the Shot night invites middle school aged students for a special event at the High School Basketball game. These students are the age that they should be getting vaccinated against HPV. The event includes free t-shirts for students, a raffle, a prize wheel, a half time free throw competition, and educational tables for students and families by Team Maureen and Cape Cod Healthcare on the importance of HPV vaccination and the connection between HPV and Cancer. All this is at no cost to the host school.

Outreach Efforts

In 1997, Dr. Suess and Mrs. Giesel partnered with the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) to promote the importance of vaccination. They released a limited series of posters, two of which we have adapted and printed for providers and schools to use. (email Kelly@TeamMaureen.org if you would like one!). Take a look at all the posters here. Some of the details are dated, but still worth browsing to remember how imporatant vaccination against preventable diseases is!
Team Maureen promotes this poignant and powerful documentary that shines light on the risks, myths, and hard truths of this widespread epidemic. If you haven't seen it yet, the movie is now available for home screenings at http://hpvepidemic.vhx.tv/
